OpenVMS and Tru64 Support
vtAlpha and vtVAX virtualize the Alpha or VAX hardware interface
inside a x86 host system. As such, they are able to run the same OpenVMS
or Tru64 versions that were supported by the
original Alpha/VAX hardware.
vtVAX and vtAlpha have a portfolio of products that can replace most of the hardware variants manufactured during the 30-year life cycle of these computer lines.
Moving your OpenVMS or Tru64 environment from the original
hardware to its virtual equivalent in vtAlpha or vtVAX means that
the entire original software constellation moves with it. This
includes the operating system, its licenses and layered products,
the user applications and processes, their databases, licenses -
all of it. Everything is copied, nothing gets changed. The only
thing that stays behind is the old hardware. The full disk content
of the Alpha/VAX is carbon copied to the new host.
Clustering (OpenVMS and Tru64) is supported, however, from now on only NI clustering is required. The old hardware (DSSI, MSCP, CI, Memory Channel) stays behind. There is no usable hardware alternative, nor is there any need for it. Networking is fast enough these days to be able to discard the old hardware.
Even more good news is that, when running on vtAlpha and vtVAX, your existing and unchanged software can benefit from the newest technologies, such as high speed networking. VAX, which supported up to 10 Mbps, will now be able to benefit from the higher bandwidth offered by the host computer that runs the virtual VAX.
Another option is to simply move away from the old and obsolete MSA/EVA SAN hardware. Connect 3PAR (or any other SAN like EMC) to your OpenVMS or Tru64 system without your software knowing about it. This way OpenVMS v6 or v7 does support 3PAR and others!

Wenn Sie Ihre OpenVMS- oder Tru64-Umgebung von der Original-Hardware auf das virtuelle Äquivalent in vtAlpha oder vtVAX verschieben, wird die gesamte ursprüngliche Softwarekonstellation mitgeführt. Dazu gehören das Betriebssystem, die dazugehörigen Lizenzen und Layer-Produkte, die Benutzeranwendungen und -prozesse, deren Datenbanken, Lizenzen - allesamt. Es wird alles kopiert, nichts wird verändert. Das Einzige, was zurückbleibt, ist die alte Hardware. Der gesamte Datenträgerinhalt des Alpha/VAX wird auf den neuen Host kopiert.
Clustering (OpenVMS und Tru64) wird unterstützt, jedoch ist von nun an nur noch NI-Clustering erforderlich. Die alte Hardware (DSSI, MSCP, CI, Memory Channel) bleibt zurück. Es gibt keine brauchbare Hardwarealternative und auch keinen Bedarf dafür. Das Netzwerk ist heutzutage schnell genug, um die alte Hardware zu verwerfen.
Noch erfreulicher ist, dass Ihre bestehende und unveränderte Software bei der Ausführung auf vtAlpha und vtVAX von den neuesten Technologien, wie z.B. Hochgeschwindigkeits-Netzwerken, profitieren kann. VAX, das bis zu 10 Mbit/s unterstützt, kann nun von der höheren Bandbreite des Host-Computers profitieren, das den virtuellen VAX betreibt.
Eine weitere Möglichkeit besteht darin, sich einfach von der alten und veralteten MSA/EVA SAN-Hardware zu lösen. Verbinden Sie 3PAR (oder ein anderes SAN wie EMC) mit Ihrem OpenVMS- oder Tru64-System, ohne dass Ihre Software davon erfährt. Damit kann OpenVMS v6 oder v7 auch 3PAR und andere unterstützen!

Otra opción es simplemente alejarse del viejo y obsoleto hardware MSA/EVA SAN. Conecte 3PAR (o cualquier otra SAN como EMC) a su sistema OpenVMS o Tru64 sin que su software lo sepa. De esta manera OpenVMS v6 o v7 soporta 3PAR y otros!

vtVAX et vtAlpha possèdent une gamme de produits suffisante pour remplacer pratiquement tous les modèles de hardware fabriqués pendant les 30 années d'existence de ces types d'ordinateurs.
Transposer votre environnement OpenVMS ou Tru64 d'un matériel machine vers son équivalent virtuel vtAlpha ou vtVAX a pour conséquence de transposer également toute votre configuration de logiciels. Cela inclus le système d'exploitation, ses licences et produits dérivés, les logiciels utilisateurs et procédés, les bases de données, les licences - tout l'ensemble. La communication réseau est suffisamment rapide de nos jours pour palier à cette absence.
Autre bonne nouvelle: avec vtAlpha et vtVAX vos logiciels préexistants peuvent bénéficier de technologies modernes comme par exemple les réseaux à hauts débits. VAX qui supportait une vitesse d'échange de 10Mbps bénéficie maintenant d'une bande passante accrue disponible sur l'ordinateur hôte de votre vtVAX.
Une autre possibilité est de se défaire du matériel antique MSA/EVA SAN. Connectez 3PAR (ou tout autre SAN comme EMC) á votre système OpenVMS ou Tru64 sans que vos logiciels ne remarque de différence. De cette façon OpenVMS v6 ou v7 support 3PAR!
